How Binaural Beats induce Lucid Dreams (A brief explanation)

July 24th, 2008

You can have access to a complete explanation at luciddreamnow.com, but for those who want a brief, simple but accurate summary of the subject, here it is…

What are Binaural Beats?

When you play two different frequencies at the same time (a frequency in one ear, and another frequency in your other ear) - your brain creates a third frequency, known as a binaural beat, which is equal to the difference between those two frequencies.

There are different levels of binaural frequencies and each one of them causes a different reaction in people. The key when using Binaural Beats to induce Lucid Dreams is that there is an ideal frequency that helps people to be aware that they are dreaming.

Frequency range of :13 to 40 Hz are Beta waves and causes Active, busy or anxious thinking and active concentration

Frequency range of : 7 to 13 Hz are Alpha waves and causes Relaxation (while awake)

Frequency range of : 4 to 7 Hz are Theta waves and causes Dreams, deep meditation, hypnosis

Frequncy range of : < 4 Hz are Delta waves and causes Deep dreamless sleep

How will Binaural Beats induce lucid dreams?

The key to Lucid Dreaming is going through the Delta (which causes dreamless sleep) then through Theta states (which will cause a Dream state), but instead of reaching the full Alpha state (which does not stimulate sleep), dip back into Theta before you awake. Your subconscious will awake, but your conscious mind will stay asleep as you go back into the dreaming state. Your subconscious will think you are awake, but then realize you are still dreaming.

Yeah, it´s that simple!

Vanilla Sky movie Review and Analysis

July 24th, 2008

I´v previously mentioned the influence this movie had on my decision to learn how to lucid dream, but now I would like to share with you a short analysis about the philosophical aspects of the story. Here it is:

The movie was described by critics as: “a metaphysical thriller - an intriguing psychological drama - a rousing, exhilarating entertainment - as seamless, surprising and erotic.”

But beyond all this, theres an aspect of the movie that seams to be overlooked most of the time.

A very brief, but clearly expressed summary of the movie would describe a character - Davis Aames, a wealthy individual who lived a playboy life, encounters tragedy shortly after barely meeting what he thought was the love of his life. A car accident disfigures his face and unable to psychologically recover from his transformation decides to end his life, and turn himself to a company that offers him a revolutionary service that promises a cryogenic preservation of his body in their installations, and at the same time the option to design his own adventures while in cryogenic state (the ability given to him, of designing a new life is what they call, a Lucid Dream ). Long story short, the Lucid Dream becomes a nightmare - his dream life beside the women he loved becomes an unbearable nightmare and near the end of the movie, he is finally visited by the companies “Tech support”, in an effort to put an end to his suffering.

An individual that characterizes tech support gives him the option to either choose to be reawakened hundreds of years after his death, or choose to have Tech support to fix his lucid dream and re-design his life artificially.

Here is where the philosophical part of the movie kicks in. The “Tech support” character implicitly confesses why his Lucid dream was a failure. He tells him: “remember…[David] : even in the future…the sweet is never as sweet…without the sour.” Or in other words…even in the future, you won´t discover happiness without first experiencing the antithesis of happiness”. So he is just suggesting, that the Lucid dream became a nightmare because his human brain was unable to design a utopia, without experiencing a dystopia. As a line in the movie clearly describes it, he experienced a “revolution of the mind”.

That is where I find the most powerful philosophical proposition of the movie. Happiness is a state of mind, but: what is happiness without sadness? What is heaven without hell?

We need to taste one to fully experience the other, and that relativity is a great paradox in human life.

This is why a utopia is just an illusion and this is why a dreamed life could never be perfect in the remote case that technology allowed similar options to the one presented in the movie.

However, real lucid dreams are far different from the kind portrayed in the movie. During the day we know what real life is, we enjoy and also suffer different emotions we encounter, and during the night if we succeed in our intention to take control of our dreams, we´ll simply be able to enjoy life a little bit more, while experiencing wonderful adventures all night long!

How to Lucid Dream?

Lucid Dreaming product List / Reviews

July 24th, 2008

When searching for tracks people often ask me for advice about where should they download the beats and about how to properly use them. That´s one of the reasons I created luciddreamnow.com and through the site or elsewhere I ALWAYS suggest to only search for specialized sites. They are the only ones who can classify the different tracks according to the specific effect each one of them cause. If you want to Lucid Dream, you don’t want to listen a Alpha wave beat, or a track that will stimulate brain activity etc.

So although I almost every time just recommend the site I have used since the beginning and have had great success with, I decided to create this small reviews about other top sites worth to take a look at.

#1 The Unexplainable Store

By far my favorite site because: Most importantly, they offer great quality products I´v had great success with, because I know that their products have satisfied many people that have thanked me for recommending the site to them, because they explain in detail how binaural beats work and because of all the sites, this one really specializes on the subject and I personally find this really important. Also, they offer great value packages, it´s very easy to feel the effects of the tracks after just minutes of playing them and because they have simply gained my trust throughout this last year. The lucid Dreaming recording is $19.95 and they give away free bonuses with every purchase.

#2 Mind Sync

As a special feature play the sounds of the ocean in the background as a tool to give you an optimal state of relaxation. Their products are good, and the features they add are very cool so I think it´s worth trying their products specially after you have found out about all the benefits binuarl beats can give you. The Lucid Dreaming recording is $19.95

#3 Meditation Power

On the plus side, the recordings they offer do not require headphones, so that´s convenient for comfort reasons. I personally had better success with other recordings and this is why it´s in the third place, but still I know from a few people that have had great success with it. The Lucid Dreaming recording is $24.95 and they also offer great value packages.

Why are Binaural Beats considered the best method to induce LDs?

July 24th, 2008

I will answer this question by sharing with you my own experience.

Hollywood did a great job on introducing me to the subject through the “Vanilla Sky” movie, and like most people, I had already experienced a few brief lucid dreams throughout my life, but I was eager to learn how people could actually learn to purposely induce them.

My determination led me to learn about many techniques that you might have already read about, such as the journal technique, the reality checks, the alarm setting technique etc. NONE of them worked effectively for me. So I went ahead and started contacting these people that where teaching others how to lucid dream online, asking them why nothing had worked for me. Most of them told me “Keep on trying, it´s all about dedication and patience”. So I did, I kept on trying and nothing happened. I was about to give up thinking that this kind of thing just wasn’t for me.

Then I received a suggestion to try out Binaural Beats, so I started reading a lot about that also. The theory and research sounded pretty logical so I download three MP3 tracks. After playing the first track, and this is no exaggeration, I started to feel the effects in minutes (while awake obviously).

Later that day when going to sleep I followed the instructions and tips, and the next day when I woke up I AT LAST could say I learned to lucid dream. Today I frankly don´t actually remember what was my first “purposely induced” LD about, but after that day all I did like for a week was to write down the things I wanted to try out while Lucid dreaming. By the way, that is something I do recommend - write down both the things you experienced in a LD and the things you would like to experience  -it really helps.

So, having said all that, to answer the question in a few words, I would say that using Binaural Beats DRAMATICALLY increases success rate, it does not require extensive practice, you can feel it´s effects in just minutes, it actually improves your sleep and you have total control about when to induce LDs. What else can you ask for?

Now, if you have tried this method and think some other method works better - although I would find it hard to believe PLEASE tell! ;)
